Women’s Health Physical Therapy

Brande Moffatt, PT, MPT, PRPC,  knew “how important it was to create a space that would be calm, nurturing, and inspirational for women dealing with complex pelvic health disorders” – That’s part of what led her to open Women’s Health Physical Therapy nearly 15 years ago.

After years of working in hospital-based inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings, Moffatt was inspired to take the leap of faith and start her own private practice in 2007. The highly-educated Moffatt earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science/physical education in 1994 and backed it up with a master’s degree in physical therapy in 1999. She soon realized, however, while working in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation that she had a profound interest in the area of women’s health. She’s actively pursued continuing education and has worked over the last 22 years to develop her specialty for the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction.

“I wanted to help patients regain control with individualized, quality care in a motivating and safe environment,” she says, adding her motto of “embrace and evolve” plays into her approach at Women’s Health Physical Therapy. “I encourage patients to embrace whatever situation they are faced with, and evolve from it.”

Focusing on pelvic physical therapy and other associated, and related, women’s health issues takes a delicate-natured person. Along with office manager Lisa Duncan, Moffatt has fostered a place where women are comfortable dealing with sometimes uncomfortable issues.

A lifelong learner, Moffatt was among the first group of practitioners in the nation to qualify to sit for the inaugural exam in 2014, and to receive the designation of Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification, which distinguishes professionals with expertise in treating all genders with pelvic dysfunction throughout the life cycle, including bladder, bowel, gynecological, orthopedic, sexual and obstetric topics.

“My passion is to always stay abreast of the advances in the field, and to be able to motivate, inspire and empower my patients with the tools they need to learn how to care for themselves,” Moffatt says. While she started her career with the intention of helping women, she quickly realized there was an underserved need to help the men and children of her community, as well.

Pelvic physical therapy is so much more than just Kegels, she says. She works with various treatment modalities, including soft tissue and joint mobilization, visceral and scar mobilization,   myofascial release, including intravaginal and intrarectal techniques, among others.  She also incorporates  various therapeutic exercise prescription techniques, including sEMG biofeedback training,  Pilates on the Reformer, and Yoga/Mindfulness training, to name a few.

Her website – www.brandemoffatt.com – is a great first step toward relief, as it’s chock full of information, testimonials, links and FAQs.

And when you need her assistance, it’s reassuring to know that you’ve got a specialist like Moffatt to guide you through.
