Orchard Nutrition Center

For nearly 40 years, Orchard Nutrition Center has worked to keep you healthy. And although founder Joe Martino has retired, you can bet new owners Chad David and Janet McCarn will keep the legacy alive as they push the Locust Street store onward toward its 40th anniversary and beyond.

It was important for Martino to keep Orchard a family-owned, community-oriented business. That’s where David, who worked his way up from cashier to general manager, and McCarn, who started as a human resources assistant and now oversees human resources as well as the administrative and public relations departments, come in.

“We are dedicated to this life,” McCarn says. And as Martino always said, “We consider it our mission to be the gatekeepers for our community, to be conscientious, understand labels and scrutinize ingredients. We strive to carry only organic, GMO-free and clean, healthy products.” David has learned every aspect of the business over his 21 years at Orchard – from cashier to stock clerk to managing the store. “Chad has known many of our regular customers for years and has led our team through good times and challenging times with steady focus and good
humor,” McCarn says.

And while not as visible as David, McCarn keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes. “I work to promote a positive work environment for all our employees and to promote Orchard through media and community events,” she says.

That’s what has set Orchard Nutrition Center apart since February 1982. Orchard carries only organic or GMO-free supplements, groceries and 100 percent organic produce. So good is Orchard Nutrition Center that it was voted Best of the North State for 12 years running before they retired the category. Talk about a knockout.

Convenient hours – 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily– makes it easy to swing by on your time. In addition to their in-person knowledge, their easy-to-navigate website details their products, latest ad supplement and offers blog posts on a variety of health topics.

One of Orchard Nutrition Center’s true delights, however, is its organic deli and bakery. From custom-made sandwiches on freshly baked breads with nitrite- and nitrate-free deli meats to delicious soups and salads, the deli is truly a cut above. Save room for their savory muffins, cookies, scones and abundance of gluten-free and vegan items baked fresh daily.

And Orchard now offers ways to shop online with curbside pickup.

“Our community inspires us to continue to keep our commitment to help them live the healthiest life possible,” McCarn says.
