Dr. Lauren Strickland always knew she wanted to care for others.
“I have always had a passion to be a doctor,” she says. “The ability to care for people has been a focus of mine since I was a child. I can still remember my first doctor kit and knew my passion would be to care for others.”
Dr. Strickland is part of Valor Oncology, a state-of-the-art, patient-centered community cancer center in Redding, along with offices in Chico and Palm Desert. She treats breast cancer and benign disorders of the breast, while Valor as a whole treats all forms of cancer.
She’s teamed at Valor with Dr. Matthew Allen and Dr. R. Douglas Matthews as the premier provider for cancer patients in the North State. Valor, on Dana Drive across from the Mt. Shasta Mall, is a warm, inviting and calming presence for patients facing serious health issues.
In addition to the elegant building with its spa-like interior, the doctors strive to deliver patient-centered, comprehensive and compassionate care in a community cancer center using best practices, advanced treatment options and leading-edge technology. Dr. Strickland returned to “the community she holds dear” to build the women’s health and breast program. “I am inspired by the women I treat,” she said. “They bring with them strength, hope, determination, wisdom, challenges and real-life stories. My patients are so different, but alike in many ways. I learn a lot from them.”
One of those things is determination. “All things are possible,” Dr. Strickland says. “I have successfully built a robust breast surgery practice while raising my daughter. Although it can be challenging, balancing a busy surgery career and motherhood, being present for both my patients and my child has been the biggest reward.”
