Taste & See Creamery + Cinder’s Wood Fired Pizza
The existential search for happiness has led many on journeys, sojourns and treks.
Who knew the guys at Taste & See Creamery and Cinder’s Wood Fired Pizza serve happiness in cones and slices? Umm, the entire North State does.
Since 2015, Danny Lee and Jake Hornaday have worked to deliver smiles in their unique and temptingly delicious ice cream flavors at their downtown shop. “We’re two good friends who were on a search to find quality and innovative ice cream flavors,” Danny and Jake say. “We had the idea of fully composed desserts in an ice cream flavor, and that led to the birth of Taste & See.”
Add in the purchase of Cinder’s in 2018 that “needed a lot of TLC” and the two shops that share the same space have become a staple in the Redding scene and downtown revitalization. Just like the unlikely pairing of ice cream and pizza, Lee and Hornaday have made a sweet match.
They had no previous business experience – “just an idea to make delicious ice cream” – and came from different parts of the country. “Coming from two distinct worlds in rural Tennessee and the city of Los Angeles, we’ve endured rough patches but realized our differences have become our strengths,” the pair says. “While we’ve had our ups and downs, our friendship has never been stronger and it has led to our success.”
That success is in the magic of the flavors. From Madagascar vanilla to smoked sea salt caramel and bourbon brown butter pecan to Belgian chocolate ganache, Taste & See Creamery offers flavors that defy boring and work to delight the palate. “All of our flavors are our own original recipes and they’re all made in house using quality ingredients,” they say.
Cinder’s, meanwhile, offers delightful 10-inch pies ranging from the traditional pepperoni to the delicious chicken basil to the divine bacon n’ brie. Toss in one of their four scrumptious salads and you’re set for a perfect outing with the family or that special someone.
“We love hearing testimonials from our customers, such as first dates that led to marriages, the look on kids’ faces when they try our unique flavors and watching friends get together on a summer evening,” Danny and Jake say. “We’ve received overwhelming love and support from the Redding community and that inspires us to deliver the best ice cream and pizza possible while providing a space that will create memories that will last forever.”
That’s made the struggle worthwhile. “On the first day of opening at our downtown location, we were down to our last dollar in our bank account,” they say. “Our opening day was our last hurrah. We made it.” But it’s not their last opening day, as a second Taste & See Creamery location is coming in spring 2021 in the Hilltop Landing center in the former Madayne and Yaks space.
“We will have a drive-through option and will be serving new offerings in addition to our amazing ice cream and much more,” they say. “We look forward to creating a place where our community can gather once COVID is behind us.”
